Hales Chapel Family, Happy Thanksgiving! I thought we had a wonderful service yesterday as we expressed our thanks to the Lord. The choir started the service off with a beautiful song and we concluded the service with the opportunity for the members of the congregation to voice individual praises and thanksgiving. It was evident that we all have much to be thankful for each day. We had a wonderful Ingathering Meal after the service. Thanks for preparing the food and for staying for the time of fellowship Here’s something to be thankful for: We have already collected the needed amount to purchase the new wheelchair for Thomas Simons! The Deacons had already recommended that if we collected more than the $4,500 needed for the wheelchair that we would give the family the additional amount to assist with other needs. We will be collecting this special offering through November 29th. Please, make checks payable to Hales Chapel Baptist Church with nothing in the memo line. Mark the envelope with Thomas or Wheelchair, so Dorothy will know how to process this. Here’s something to be thankful for: We had approximately 40 people who assisted with the baking and packaging of 100 pies, which will be distributed through Building 323 as part of the Thanksgiving meal. Thanks to Joelle for heading up this ministry of service. Food Drive for Building 323: Canned goods and other non-perishable food items will be collected in the bins in the hallway in the educational building through Sunday, December 13th. Let’s generously give to assist those in need in our own community. We start our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions emphasis this Sunday with John and Sarah Davenport, IMB missionaries, speaking in the service. We will be having our Manna for Missions lunch after the service and the money collected will be applied towards our Lottie Moon Offering goal. Our Hallelujah Goal is $9000. Let’s give sacrificially so our IMB missionaries can continue to share the Gospel around the world. Please, prepare food and plan to stay for the meal. Read MoreHales Chapel Family, We had a great time and a great turnout for the Fall Festival. Special thanks to Tina, members of the Home Missions Team, Dakota and the youth for all of their hard work! Unfortunately I did not do a good job of resisting the temptation of the candy during the Festival—or at home. I guess once a year will be okay to eat candy. J Bullet Point Announcements: Wednesday Night Dinner — November 4th from 5:45 PM to 6:30 PM; Menu: Grilled chicken breast, green beans and mashed potatoes Prayer Meeting this Wednesday is primarily a season of prayer DNow for the Youth this weekend — pray this will be a great time of spiritual growth while having a great time of fun Sign up for the Marriage Conference – November 14th at 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Corinth Baptist Church Sign up for the Veterans Dinner — November 14th at 4:30 PM in the HCBC Fellowship Hall Community Thanksgiving Service — November 24nd at 7:00 PM at Watkins Baptist Church Food needed for special events: We need 4 more volunteers to provide snacks/desserts for the Marriage Conference. We need 4 volunteers to provide dessert for the Community Thanksgiving Service. Please, let me know if you could assist with one or both of these events. Devotional Thought: Is 48:17–18 17 This is what the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says: I am Yahweh your God, who teaches you for your benefit, who leads you in the way you should go. 18 If only you had paid attention to My commands. Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea. I am struck by the sadness of verse 18, “If only you had paid attention to My commands.” If only. God was teaching and was leading but Israel failed to follow. If only. They could have had peace and righteousness. If only. God teaches and leads us daily though His Word. If only. God teaches and leads us daily as we pray. If only. God teaches and leads us daily as we observe the godly lives of others. If only. “If only you had paid attention to My commands.” Are there commands I am not paying attention to today? Will there be commands I will not pay attention to in the future? If only. In His Steps,...
Read MoreHales Chapel Family, We had another wonderful day of worship on Sunday as we came into the presence of the Lord as a community of worshippers and as we celebrated the public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord by Sarah Boyette. We will be planning a baptismal service soon. If you or someone you know has been thinking about baptism, please, contact Tina, Dakota or me so we can discuss this act of obedience with you/them. A special word of thanks to Dakota and all of the volunteers for the D-Now event this past weekend. The reports from D-Now have been fantastic. Please, be patient with the volunteers as they try to catch up on their sleep. I do appreciate them not snoring too loudly during my sermon this past Sunday. J I have thanked the D-Now guest speaker for picking on Cindy Brantley. I wish I could take credit for it but it was not planned. Cindy is just an easy target. J Bullet Point Announcements: Marriage Conference – November 14th at 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Corinth Baptist Church Veterans Dinner — November 14th at 4:30 PM in the HCBC Fellowship Hall Community Thanksgiving Service — November 24nd at 7:00 PM at Watkins Baptist Church Food needed for special events: Urgent for this Saturday We need 3 more volunteers to provide snacks/desserts for the Marriage Conference. We need 3 more volunteers to provide dessert for the Community Thanksgiving Service. Please, let me know if you could assist with one or both of these events. Devotional Thought: 2 Timothy 2:24–26 The Lord’s slave must not quarrel, but must be gentle to everyone, able to teach, and patient, 25 instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading them to the knowledge of the truth. 26 Then they may come to their senses and escape the Devil’s trap, having been captured by him to do his will. If you are correct with your theological beliefs but you have the wrong attitude and actions towards others—you are wrong. If you are correct with your vision but you have the wrong attitude and actions towards others—you are wrong. Not quarrel. Gentle to everyone. Patient. Gentleness. To be honest it is fairly easy to behave in this way with folks who agree with you, but we are instructed to behave this way with people who disagree with us. In His Steps,...
